Into the Wild

Welcome to the Into the Wild blog.

We will communicate with one another, as a class, on this site. This blog will make up part of your grade. Be sure to know and meet all deadlines. On Monday I will post the question for the week. You must respond to the DQ (discussion question) for the week by Wednesday 10 pm. You must also respond to a classmate's response by Thursday 10 pm. If you do not respond by the due date and time you will not receive credit.
I have found that it is best to respond early so no one else "takes" your idea.
I expect respectful, mature communication worthy of high school seniors. No put downs, no vulgar language.
Yes, grammar and spelling counts - this    is an English class.
Be sure to address all aspects of the DQ for full credit.
                                         Enjoy!

Into the Wild is a nonfiction, full-length text by Jon Krakauer. Published in 1996, it is based on an article Krakauer wrote in Outside Magazine about Christopher McCandless, a young college graduate who went off to Alaska and died in the woods. Because Krakauer’s article drew a huge amount of mail to the magazine, he decided to write a book about this interesting character. Chris McCandless was an idealistic young man who formed a life philosophy based on his experience and his reading in college. His idealism, ironically, led to his death by starvation. He made choices that seemed foolish as we look at them now. But McCandless genuinely loved the outdoors and wanted to live in the world without all the trappings of money and his middle-class upbringing. Into the Wild is, in a way, a mystery story. We’re unsure as to why he rejected his family, why he was so angry with them, and why he chose to head for Alaska.

Quickwrite:
Think about an experience you have had when you were alone and made some misjudgments that could have led to disaster, but didn’t. (It doesn’t have to be in the outdoors.) What miscalculations did you make and how did you avoid disaster? Minimum five sentence response. Minimum three sentence response to another student's response.

My response:
Several years ago I was walking along the beach in Rosario with my daughter. As we were returning to the hotel I noticed that the tide was coming up quickly. Rather than turn back and walk along the road, I decided that we could make it back to the hotel before the tide came in leaving us without beach access (major miscalculation). I was wrong. Very stupidly, I told my daughter to climb the rock wall that bordered the beach. The waves were crashing against the wall and us. We climbed higher. My daughter was frightened and, to be honest, so was I. I really didn't have a plan. The rock cliff was too steep for us to ever get to the top of. Fortunately my husband, who has a far better understanding of the ocean, saw us and rescued us. To this day my daughter questions my decisions when in nature. I realized that sometimes I don't think things through.

One time for a performance for dance, I showed up to the event without my headpiece. I grabbed my dance bag thinking that I had my headpiece in it but, I was mistaken. I knew that I would get into deep trouble if I were the only one dancing with out my headpiece. So what I did was, I made an agreement with another dancer on the team and while she was off stage I would quickly borrow the head piece. It worked out even though it was a major stress.

  2. I made a family vacation to Hawaii my freshman year. My sister and I decided to go to the beach one night, for it was right in front of the hotel. Everything was going great until we went farther away from shore. Since it was dark we couldn't see clearly what was the object that we felt under us. It turned out to be a manta ray. The tide was high so it took us time to reach shore plus we were freaking out. We finally reached shore and decided to never go night swimming again.

  3. When I was home alone, I made the mistake of trying to cook fro myself. At the time, I was about 10 years old and had no idea of the in and outs of a kitchen. It also did not help that I was a tiny human at the age of 10. As climbed my way up to the dishes high in the cupboards, I was met with the sudden realization that I was afraid of heights. I sat there paralyzed, thought were running through my head: Would I fall? Was I going to die? (I know I had a crazy mind as a child, still do). I remained sitting on the cupboard until I heard the door open. I knew I was going to be in trouble fro climbing the cupboards so, instead of yelling fro help I waited for them to notice me. I know I am a weird child. To my relief, my parents were not mad at me, they could only laugh as I told them the story between my Spanish tongue and my English tongue.

Just as I was crossing the street a car cam zooming past and I had almost got hit. I miscalculated by thinking i could cross before the cross light flashed for pedestrians. I was in a hurry and it was a danger to my safety. i know now that my safety is more important than crossing the street fast. its better to be patient than dead.

I had 30 minutes before the bus had to leave and I had no idea where to go. Six Flags is like a giant maze. When I would be on the right path, I'd take the wrong turn on the way. Finally, I found en employee and asked where was the exit. After my encounter with the employee, I had about 7 minutes to get to the bus. In the end, I made it at the last second.

Also you should never travel alone, you should had friends with you at all times so you wouldn't have gotten into that situation in the first place. that was smart that you found someone who worked there and asked for directions.

We were roasting marshmallows for s'mores and my nephews were passing a ball around by the fire pit which i said was okay. While they were playing one accidentally threw it to far and the other one reached to far for it and he almost fell into the fire pit but thankfully i was there to stop him from falling in. I should not had let them play so close to the fire.

On Easter, my family and I went to Lake Casitas with the whole family. After my cousins finally got there, we went to go discover throughout the places where nobody was. It was about 5:30 p.m.,it was almost dark and we started to watch the sunset. Time passed by and it got really dark but we didn't have our flashlights and our phones were dead so we had to remember where the way back was. We heard strange noises from behind us and there was screaming but we didn't look back. I was yelling run run to my cousin but she said no because we would get hurt. It took us like 20 minutes to get back and with the cautiousness of my cousin we got back with our family safe.

We went home covered with sand.

We called this lady and she did not fall for our trick so she ended up tracing the number back to us and she called the cops because she thought we were home alone. By the time the cops came my mom was back and we got a long talk from the officer. At the time my sister and i though this was a good idea because we thought that we would have fun doing it. In the end we ended up getting in trouble with not only our mom, but with the police.

  11. A time I was alone and made some misjudgments that could have led to disaster was when I decided to do other things other than my school project. I knew that my decision was eventually going to lead to consequences, but in the moment it didn't matter to me because I just didn't want to complete it. Since I was alone I kept getting distracted by other things that made me procrastinate even more. Eventually I decided to begin my school project and I was able to finish it in time, but in the time I was completing it I felt pressured. The experience I had about my school project could have led to disaster, but I took action and realized that with continuing with my decision on procrastinating my school project would have led to consequences that would affect my grade.

I ended up runing faster than i can actually move my legs i almost ran down in to the road and almost would have gotten hit by a car. Hopefully there was a car that was parked on the side of the road so I ended up hitting the car to stop me from runing on to the road. So now i never will run down the hill again.

One day my mother and I decided to attend the eight o'clock Santa Clara church. We praised the Lord. We felt as one with God, but we didn't bring a car with us that day so we had to walk home. I didn't think that anything could happen to us until I noticed that there was a stranger walking to close behind us. I turned around and I saw his hand was trying to reach for my moms purse. My mother noticed this too. She made me speed walk as if I was going to sprint home. This was the fastest I've ever seen my mom walk. Thankfully we made it home safe and sound.

Since it was my first time climbing a tree, I wasn't really sure how far my legs can reach or far up I can go before I got really scared to go back down. Keep in mind that the branches were pretty far apart. So as i was contemplating my mistake, I had to calm down and figure out a way down alone because all my friends were down already. At the end of the day I was able to get down without getting badly hurt. Now, my friends look back at this and just find it okay to laugh. Not going to lie, I also laugh.

  19. When I was younger I was often left home alone with my siblings. My older siblings were in charge of me, but were not good at their job. I lived on a busy street and I had friends near by. On one of days I was left alone with my siblings I decided to go down the street to play with my friend. I did not let anyone know that I was leaving which was a dangerous idea. I had to cross the street so I checked for any cars near by. When I crossed a car had almost hit me. Lucky enough the car saw me and stopped the car on time. From this situation I learned that it would have been a better idea to ask for help when I would cross the street.

At the time it seemed like a good idea because we were really excited to be there. We also forgot that we couldn't use our phones to call our parents just in case we got lost. After a few hours we tried finding our way back, but we couldn't. We had to find someone and ask where this bakery was because that's the closest thing we remembered passing. Luckily, a woman knew what we were talking about and took us back to it. We knew the way back to the hotel from that point. I was going to call my mom or dad to come pick me up from school but then i would have to wait another hour for them to get out of work and i did not want to wait, so i decided to just walk home. As i was walking, i noticed that there was a man in his car following me. I was a little scared, but i continued walking and ignored it. A few moments later i looked back and saw that the man parked his car. He quickly got out of the car and began to speed walk towards me as he calls me to go with him. I ran as fast as i could until i got to my neighborhood, i looked back once more and he was gone. Good thing nothing bad happened to me that day but now i know that next time i should call someone.

My cousins and I decided to go on a hike on our own without telling our parents that was probably the first mistake now that I look back at it. We went down near the lake and had to get across to start the hike so we found this muddy part near the edge and thought it was a good idea to cross through there. However, I quickly realized as I took a step father the mud was sinking me in and the mud reached up to my waist. I was so terrified and my cousins were freaking out thankfully our camp site was at the top of the hill and my stepdad some how heard us freaking out and quickly ran down and pilled me out. I remember getting a ear full by my parents but I really learned from that experience.

  24. When I was younger I was left home alone for about an hour as my parents went out to buy something to eat. My sister was asleep and i was vegetating in front of the TV when i thought of the nearly empty tub of ice cream in the freezer. I had already had lunch and i figured it would be nice to have the last bit of ice cream. Now, if iI were in this situation again i would just put the ice cream under some hot water and wait a minute before helping myself. When i was younger however I had the ingenious idea of heating up the spoon to melt through the frozen ice cream. I watched my mom cook using the stove and learned how to turn it on, so I grabbed a spoon and headed towards the stove. After turning on the stove I put the spoon atop of the flames for almost five minutes before I saw that the spoon was totally blackened underneath. I started to get scared and decided to throw away the spoon near the dumpsters near the alley where my apartments are. I wasn't very smart when it came to education but logic and common sense started to put two and two together. The metal exposed to fire didn't catch on fire itself so I thought that it would store the heat kind of like a backpack. My lack of patience as a kid almost made me put a hot piece of metal to my tongue.

I was going to just go home and forget about practice because without my helmet I cant even practice so why even bother right? I'm glad I stayed because for some reason that practice was "very important" because the players that didn't make it that day didn't play on Friday.

I was the only student that was able to show up because many others were busy and I miscalculated the amount of time it will take me to clean the compound, office, and part of the "connex". I didn't think i would be able to finish especially since the connex is a mess with all the returned uniforms which aren't organized at all. I somehow managed to organize part of the connex which took me about an hour, clean the compound which was about an hour and a half, because I swept it and washed it down with a water hose (it was full of dirt and dust). The only way I actually managed to finish the big task was by rushing the whole thing, running the whole time.

Second is, after reading your story, that you must have gotten an incredible cardiovascular work out. More people should have your drive and determination, something I personally admire.

I overheard my parents saying how they want to use it for the fire place but I had the bright idea of doing it myself to save them the trouble. I get a hold of a lighter from the kitchen, go outside and I lit the tree on fire. The tree bursted out in flames within seconds, so what does a little 6 year-old do? I started crying and panicking but the good thing with all that was going on is that I ran to get the water hose to try to put out the fire. It didnt't really work out as I thought it would, my dad came out with a fire extinguisher. The point of the story is I could've lit the house on fire or injure someone very badly.

One day I was home alone I was just sitting on the couch and I heard sirens close by, didn't pay no mind to it. Moments later the sirens were getting closer and there were skid noises. In a matter of seconds there was so much noise going on outside my house, there was a SUV parked in front of my driveway and a whole bunch of cops surrounding the whole block. Then my dogs started to bark and then I seen someone running across my backyard and my dogs chasing them. During that moment cops were ringing the bell and knocking on the window, I was so scared I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't open the door because I was scared and home alone, they then called my house phone and I answered. When I answered they told me "We are the cops outside your house can you please open the door." After I hung up I opened the door and they asked if anyone was home and I told them "no". They did a quick search of the backyard, and when they did they had to pepper spray my dog because he kept barking. As soon as they finished searching the backyard they called my mom. My mom came as fast as she can. We later found out the SUV was stolen.

  34. About a year ago my family and I took a road trip to Reno, Nevada for my cousins wedding . Being from Southern California It's not very often i get to enjoy the snow, so Reno was a very different experience during the winter for me . My family wasn't prepared for the amount of snow that lied ahead and the road was already slippery and dangerous, so driving alone was very scary for us. My little brother who was 3 at the time had to pee and we were far from any rest stop, so we did what we had to do. We pulled over and my mom asked me to take my brother outside to pee. I myself was not prepared for the cold, wet, wind outside and I had UGG boots on, which was terrible because while I was helping my little brother out of the car we slipped and fell. Due to us not having the proper shoes on we fell for quite awhile. My little brother started crying as we rolled down a small hill on the side of the road, luckily it was during the day and the snow had formed some what of a cushion for us. I caught a grip on some tree roots and walked us back up. Never again will I go anywhere not prepared.

  35. An experience that i encountered when I was alone and made some misjudgments that I believe should have led to a disaster but didn't was about two years ago when i decided to sneak out of my bedroom window at almost 11 pm. But that wasn't the worst part, I left on a mission to get to a certain place but because it was so dark i had no idea which way to go. Panicking through the neighborhood I came across two older (cholo like) men hanging around outside that I stopped to ask which way to go to arrive at my destination. They told me that I was really far mostly going on foot and that they could give me a ride. I stood there quietly a little scared and reminded myself in my head how my mom always told me to never go with strangers. Then one of the men told me that I shouldn't worry because he wouldn't harm me and understood my situation so would just drop me off at my destination. That's when I made the mistake and said okay, and when everything should have went bad. But it didn't thank God. I remember praying as I entered the car. It was only one of the men that was taking me to drop me off, on the way there we talked about my situation and similar experiences. He took me straight to my destination and didn't harm me in any way. Sadly I forgot that mans name who helped me that night and honestly kept me out of bigger situation of danger. In the end, being grounded was defiantly not bad when I could have been kidnapped instead.

  36. When I was twelve-years-old I went camping with my family. My cousin and I decided to go bike riding on a mountain bike that I did not have any experience on. I knew the right brake did not work but I thought I wouldn't need it. I was going super fast on a curve, my cousin told me to slow down but I did not listen to him. I saw a car coming my way, I tried using the brake, I forgot it didn't work. Before I knew it, I crashed into the car and fell off the bike. The good thing was I did not get hurt as bad and now I know not to use a bike without a brake.

  37. Last year, I had to walk to morning weights, and I left my house around 5:30 in the morning for zero period. As I left my street and turned the corner I see these two men sitting on this wall staring and pointing at me. I could hear them talking really low, so I kept on walking. I pass the next street a couple more men pass me staring at me, as I get to the main road I get this weird feeling that someone is watching me and following me. All this time my mind is racing thinking the worse is going to happen to me. I am thinking that if anything happens I'm going to run to school or circle back to my house. I get to Patterson, and I am stuck at the light and the feeling is getting deeper and deeper as I get to the fields like mid way I didn't have that feeling anymore. I got to school around 6:00 unharmed and cold.

So as we where walking the first friend home we decided to cross the old K Mart parking lot. By the time we were half way through the parking lot, there was a very sketchy man trying to get our attention. i then told the group to keep on walking because the man looked like trouble. He then yells out " hey do y'all know a guy named josh, i`m looking for him" and as soon as he said that, one of my friends turned around to answer him with " no we don`t know him." At that exact moment, he pulls a gun out on us and takes all of our stuff! i decided to hide my phone and wasn't trying to give up my things. He then pulls the gun closer to my face and shouts out " give me every F***ing thing you have. I decided to empty my pockets instead of getting shoot. He came in a little closer and said"now get the hell out of here." The only thing he didn't take was my phone! ;)

After a long and rigorous walk I had finally reached my destination. As I am waiting for my friend to come out I am approached by an older man. The next thing I know he had a knife out and asked me if I "banged" and where I was from. I quickly told him no and he said this is South Side. So we all jumped the fence and started heading over to 7 eleven to put gas. We got there and we pumped gas, right after were done filling the car with gas , my friend started to tell me let me drive, let me drive please, and well i felt bad so i gave him my keys and we started to head over back to school while my friend was driving and i don't know why put he started to step on it for no reason, I guess he wanted to see if my car was really fast and reaching almost 90 mph a car cut us off and caused a massive accident, we luckily came out alive.

I like it better that way because it saves paper and for me, it's way more convenient. The last concert I went to required a printed out version of the ticket, so when I had showed up to the venue I realized I forgot them in the car. There was an undeniable tension between us that made me sick to my stomach, and to this day I still don't know why that would happened when we were together. I saw a worn down house that I saw from a distance and walked towards it without saying a word, just expecting him to follow which he did. We went inside only find destroyed furniture around the house, but what we didn't know was that there was another presence with us. I walked to another room leaving my brother Herman alone in the living room, and I stumbled upon a book of some sort and I picked it up and it was diary, the name said Sandy Miller. I heard foot steps and before I had anytime to react someone grabbed my arm, it was an old man that smelled as if he didn't know what a shower was, screaming for my life my brother ran to the room and reacted fast by grabbing a piece from the destroyed furniture and smacked him on his back, distracting him making an opportunity for me to escape and run out the door including my brother. I ran so fast that day not looking back but, noticing my brother was right beside me made me realize who we got out that day. First instinct was flee the scene, I was going to get in a world of trouble. After taking deep breaths I decided not to, and followed the faultless driver to a nearby parking space. After exchanging information we were both on our way and I headed home with a broken bumper empty passenger seat and a million outcomes to my inevitable situation in the following 30 minutes.

I keep calm and I kept my balance and was able to get out of this situation without a scratch. To this day I look back at this decision trying to make sure nothing like this happens again.

  69. Once when I was 8 years old, I was visiting my uncle in Long Beach and his Rottweiler had recently given birth to a handful of puppies. Considering that I love dogs, I was extremely excited to see/hold them. My uncle led me to his dog's house in the backyard and let me play with them for a while, but we had to go back inside to have lunch. After I ate, I wanted to hold them again, so my uncle told me it was okay if I went back there with my brother as long as we didn't bother the mom. In an attempt to open up the dog house to bring out a puppy, we accidentally shook the top and it made a loud noise which triggered the Rottweiler. She peeked out of the house and started growling, which got louder the more she came out. She started to run towards me and I ran for the door as fast as I could. The door that led to the backyard was locked for some reason, so I was yelling for someone to open it but she was able to reach me just in time. She bit my hip, through my skirt and into my skin. At that time, my aunt and uncle opened the back door and pulled her away from me. I was bleeding and in pain, but since then I've never bothered a bigger dog after having puppies.

  70. When I was 8 years old I had a terrible accident happen to Me. My mom had made me chicken noodle soup before she got into the shower. While she was in there, I was watching television and got too excited and kicked the table. This led to the boiling hot soup falling down and burning my thighs. I screamed and cried so much my mom rushed out of the bathroom and she was shocked. I had third-degree burns on my thighs and left scars. I shouldn't have kicked the table and should've been more aware of my surroundings and the boiling hot soup in front of me.

In the middle of our hike we had stopped in the middle of the trail we were in which was in the middle of the woods, our leader then turned to us and said that we would be walking the rest of the trail alone to get over the fear of walking alone in the woods in the dark or walking alone in the dark in general. When it was my turn to walk the trail alone in the dark my mind started to think of everything negative that could happen within that moment. I started to hear things moving in the trees and bushes. I started picturing things behind the trees or felt as if i was being watched by someone out in the forest. Once i got to the end of the trail with the rest of the group waiting we had gone back to where we originally started and walked back as a group and during that time there were no paranoid thoughts.

We did a double chuck as water balloons spewed across the white jeep. It parked and one of the two very large men inside hopped out and chased us. Cade drops his phone mid run ans has to go back, if I didn't wait we would have been separated and potentially been dead meat.

  75. Last summer I was up at my house in the Sierra mountain range when I was up there I did all kinds of fishing and hiking. One day I decide to hike to the top of one of the giant granite domes that surround the nearby reservoir near my family cabin. No one wanted to go on the hike with me so I went alone. To get to the dome I had to kayak across the lake to the complete other side. From there I pulled my kayak onto the lake shore and hike into the dense thick pine forest, once I made it to the top of the dome I hung out there for there for a while and had lunch. While coming down I had to go back into the pine tree forest while going through the forest I got lost so I found a high point and located the lake and went down from there I kayaked back to where the cabin was. I had avoided the disaster by finding a high spot to get back to where the lake was.

One hectic afternoon, I went with my cousins to the hospital to visit a friend of ours who was in labor. We gathered our stuff and rushed out of the house to the hospital. After being at the hospital for a few hours, I started questioning whether I locked the door to the house or not. I didn't tell anybody for a while because I didn't want to worry them. Eventually I brought it up and called my other cousin and asked her if she could go check if the door was locked. As I got home, I saw the garage lights were on and my cousin wasn't picking up her phone. As I opened the door, my cousin screamed and informed me that I did end up locking the door and everything was fine.

    1. It is great that your cousin was able to go check on your house on a short notice and that no one broke into your home. I always get the feeling that I forgot to lock the doors of my house too.On impulse I sometimes lock the door of my house without even noticing.

My house was fifteen minutes away from the park and we only had five minutes before the game started. I wouldn't be able to play without my soccer shoes so I asked my friend if I could borrow her shoes for only ten minutes. I asked my dad to get me the shoes from home and I would only play for ten minutes without the gloves. I did play without my gloves for ten minutes, my hands were sore from the blocks I made. Now I would always make sure I have everything I need before leaving.

    2. You showed great courage and determination by playing without your gloves for ten minutes; I used to be a goalkeeper but I would not have the same courage as you to play without gloves. I am happy to know that you only got your hands sore as pulling back a finger would cause at least a week of injury.

  81. I will never forget my first time crossing a street alone. I was in seventh grade at the time and had just gotten out of class when my Aunt called, informing me that she would be picking me up from school. I looked around and to my horror I found her on the other side of the road. She was unaware of the fact that, up until that point, I had always crossed with someone. Reluctantly, I took a step forward after scanning to make sure there were no cars coming. Suddenly a man on a bike sped around a corner heading my way. Unsure of what to do next I froze on the spot. As he skidded to a screeching stop I bolted into my Aunt's car. She was laughing hysterically, but the sound was drowned out by my embarrassment.

    1. Next time maybe you should try crossing with a friend thats around you. or waiting for a group of people to cross at the same time as you so that you would feel safer crossing. You should of also checked twice before crossing to make sure everything was double clear. Or you could have asked your aunt to park on the other side of the street so that it would be more easily accessible for you.

  82. Over the summer I was walking near an alley with my cousin, when we heard small screams coming from the inside of a dumpster. We quickly glanced over the dumpster and realized that someone had placed two hamsters, which were trapped in a cage, inside of a plastic bag leaving them little room to breathe. I told my cousin to go inside the dumpster and retrieve the hamsters, but when she refused to I decided to go inside of the dumpster myself. Being too distracted on grabbing the hamsters, we did not notice that a garbage truck was approaching us until I got out. If I had not gotten out of the dumpster soon enough or if the people driving the garbage truck had not noticed us I could have been injured.

I usually step on the gas while leaving because of how bad traffic was from where I was parking at the time. So that day, since he was gone, I decided to try to call while driving. Which was an awful choice. I ended up crashing into this lady. Now I found parking space that I can get out faster at any time so I have time to call before I even start my car.

I got hungry so I stole from one of the locals and took money out of their purse to buy chicken. I was dark skinned when I was younger so I blended in with the crowd and I didn't stand out as a tourist, so no one helped me find the group. I kept searching with no help when I finally found my parents at the same spot I lost them. I could've gotten in trouble for stealing but I got lucky and didn't. I was returned to my parents who didn't even know I went missing for a good half hour.

I put way too much gasoline and wood because when I had thrown in the match it was an explosion of fire. I luckily wasn't burned but I did burn many things that were around. I know that I would have caused a huge disaster if just kept adding more to the fire. I probably would have burned my uncles house down.

I was going to just go home and forget about practice because without my shoes I cant even practice so why even bother right? I decided to stay and suck it up and tell my coach that I forgot it, he laughed and made a joke about it and fortunately he had an extra shoes for me, they were not my size but that was ok. I'm glad I stayed because for some reason that practice was "very important" because the players that didn't make it that day didn't play the following game day.

I asked my coach for game pants and he didn't have them for me. he had nasty practice pants for so I left the game out anger. He later asked me why I left the game and i explained to him why I left. He was like we didn't have any more sizes of game pants for you. So I just left the game and didn't go at all with the team.

But then I thought through my bag and saw that I hadn't brought my converse that we were supposed to wear. Since I was in such a rush that morning I had left them on my bed. He put the taser on the very top shelf in the kitchen then asked if we wanted to go to the liquor store to buy chips, i decided to stay because i was feeling very lazy when they left I got very curious and decided to climb on a chair and get the taser, i lifted the cap and stared at it for a while before i raised in to the ceiling and pressing the button. Let me just tell you it left a burn mark on the ceiling. Right at that moment my uncle walks in and and runs toward me, takes it away, and tells me not to tell my mom he left me alone with a taser.

So as I approached the ice cream man he said he was all out of ice cream. And i asked myself, "how is that possible?" as he told me that he asked how much money i had and i replied with $20 dollars and he said i will give you 4 bags of chips for $20. And i thought that was a great deal so i took it. But when I told my dad he was furious and went out to look for him, but he was gone already. I felt so played. I haven't been to an ice cream man ever since.

  97. A couple of months ago during summer I went camping with my family. It was already late and I did not have a flashlight because I went exploring by the mountains when the sun was still out, and I was far away from the spot we had our tents at so I had to walk a mile without light and realized I had a flashlight on my phone. If I hadn't remember that I had it there I would've got lost on the way back because of the trails seemed all the same and with the light I tracked back my footprints.

I decided it would be a good idea to wander off and try to explore the whole water park on my own. I did not tell anyone where I was going, and I soon found myself lost. I went outside the park, and I began to get scared. My family was looking for me, and thankfully a worker helped me find them. That experience allowed me to learn never to wander off alone, especially in foreign places.

When it was almost pitch black we decided to turn around but our phones were dying and knew that we didn't have a lot of light left. So we started to run down the mountain and she fell and twisted her ankle.

  101. In May, my family and I took a road trip to Arizona because it was the time of year when we help my older sister move out of her school apartment and bring her back home for the summer. Out of the 2 days we stayed in Arizona our very last day my parents planned last minute to take a family hiking trip to the Devil's bridge, and because of the heat we are going to take the shortest trail that would only take 20 minutes to the bridge. We left our hotel room at 6:00 in the morning and because this hike was planned last minute we only had two water bottles for a family of five, we obviously did not thing this all the way through. Turns out we ended up taking the longest trail because it has been an hour and we were completely lost. Keep in mind it is now 115 degrees out and with one water bottle all gone and the second one only a quarter full we were all struggling to walk. I do not know why, but my parents were determined that we were getting close to the Devil's Bridge. My siblings and I were way too dehydrated to even walk any further especially because we did not know where we were going and we sat by a small tree that had very little shade and we let our parents keep walking. 20 minutes passed and we see our parents walking towards us, they found out that we were not close at all and we ended up walking all the way back to the start of the trail with no water in the bottles. Took us about 30 minutes to walk back and the temperature went higher to 120 degrees, we spent about four hours trying to walk this trail.

One day one of my best friends invited me to go over to her house, I totally forgot to call my mom and ask for permission. After school my friend and I walked to her house, my phone had died before school had ended. The sun was setting and called my mom so she could pick me up. As soon as she answered she immediately asked where I was and if anything had happened to me! I was confused because I thought I had told her I was going to my friend’s house after school. She then began to yell and said she had called the police. She was very upset because I had not told her where I was going. I got grounded for a week.

Before she left my mom and I went to our local supermarket to buy some groceries. As we got home my mom immediately began to prepare food. She made chicken nuggets and French Fries. she gave me a hug goodbye and was off to the conference. I foolishly ate all the food she left for me but I was still hungry. So, I looked for a knife and began cutting some chicken fillets. I completely misjudged the sharp knife therefore I accidentally got a cut on my finger. That day I learned that we should always be careful while using knifes.
